Ed Hall, Chairman and Chief Executive
Ed is Chairman and Chief Executive of the Canis Media Group, and an active investor in digital television businesses in the UK and overseas. He has launched, bought or sold more channels in the UK than anyone else.
Prior to founding Canis in 2001, Ed founded and ran Invest TV, the company that launched the Simply group of channels. Ed formerly worked as a consultant for a number of companies, including Northern and Shell and Channel 4. Before moving into the business side of broadcasting Ed was a reporter and producer for the BBC, Channel 4, Thames Television and various newspapers and magazines. He won a SONY Radio Award in 1998 for a programme in the series Ed Hall Investigates… for BBC Radio 5 Live.
Ed is well known on the conference circuit both here in the UK and abroad and is also a regular contributor to television and broadcast trade magazines. His views and commentaries on the issues currently facing the television industry are widely respected and he is a valuable adviser to any newcomer to the UK television market.
Highly experienced in the broadcast arena, Fergus has worked in both production and advertising in the UK television industry. He started in media sales working for ITV where he negotiated airtime with media buying agencies and clients.
Fergus then co-founded, launched and managed a production company specialising in participation entertainment game shows which launched onto the Sky and Virgin platforms and supplied both ITV and Hallmark Television with content.
After a short spell at CNBC, the business news channel, Fergus joined Canis Media as Managing Director. Fergus helped engineer the merger with Entertainment Media Group (EMG Ltd) in 2012 and also identified local TV as an opportunity and put together the team (Comux UK) which won the Multiplex Licence to build out the local TV transmission infrastructure. He is also the Commercial and Media Director at Comux.
Fergus’ entrepreneurial background, his experience in launching television channels and his knowledge of the UK’s TV airtime market makes him uniquely qualified to assist any new entrants to the UK TV market.
Aaron brings his 10 years of Channel Management experience to the role of Broadcast Services Manager at Canis Media.
Having launched and managed 12 channels in various genres including general entertainment, music, sport and self- promotion, plus a VOD service, Aaron is a channel management and scheduling specialist. His primary role at Canis is to ensure that channels are scheduled correctly and stay on air from a technical perspective, however, Aaron also has plenty of experience on the editorial side. He has worked as a media planner and a promo producer for a variety of channels so is well qualified to help with promo campaign managing and ad minutage scheduling strategies to both new and existing clients.
Aaron is responsible for the management of Canis Media’s in house scheduling and broadcast services team who look after a growing number of channels, and his experience is essential to any broadcasters looking to launch into the UK TV market.
James began his career in early 2000 in events & celebrity booking working on film premieres, charity events and various award ceremonies. Pursuing ambitions he moved into TV & film as Production Coordinator for leading special FX creators, Millennium FX working on various Hollywood films and TV shows. Moving to Talkback Thames as Location Coordinator & Researcher James gained most of his TV experience on various prime time shows for the BBC and Channel 4.
In the summer of 2011 James joined Canis Media conducting research for various projects and with his main focus brokering Sky EPG and Freeview airtime sales. Having successfully brokered 40+ EPG sales and helping international channels launch in the UK James has a thorough understanding and appreciation of how the industry works from production to broadcast.
Tina has over twenty years experience in the European media industry, including business to business and direct to consumer sales. Tina has held roles in sales, marketing, acquisitions, rights licensing, production and distribution for the likes of Warner Brothers, Carlton TV and Walt Disney. As Commercial Manager, Tina is responsible for the day to day commercial operations of MTN (Manchester Television Network) and our wn Teleshopping Channel – TV Warehouse (Sky 657 & Freesat 804). Tina can also assist our clients with their Ofcom Licence Applications, Mid Returns and Compliance issues.
Steph joined Canis Media in 2007 straight from university, and started her career as a scheduler for Film 24. After 18 months working on the channel she was then promoted to Head of Scheduling, looking after a team of schedulers and managing the day to day running of several channels across various platforms.
Steph has recently been promoted again to Head of Channel Management and Training, and she will work closely with all the channels we are working with who are looking to launch in the UK. Steph will be especially busy in late 2013 and 2014 when Canis Media will be assisting 19 local TV Licensees to ensure a smooth launch of their channels and provide support and training for their teams as and when required.
Neil has over fifteen years experience in the Broadcast industry and has worked across some of the biggest entertainment shows of the last decade.
Beginning with Account Managing the Virgin Records worldwide video distribution on behalf of a facility company, he has since worked across Post Production, Studios and Outside Broadcasts and therefore knows how to get a show to air with tight deadlines. Well known to the Production community, he has won many commercial contracts and has worked on some of the decades biggest entertainment formats. Commercially savy, he has worked for companies such as Pinewood Studios, Roll to Record and Prime Focus.
Sally joined Canis Media in May 2013 to head up the Finance Team.
She is a qualified accountant with over 25 years’ experience in organisations of varying sizes from £1.8bn to start up. She has had a progressive career with a unique mix of commercial, financial, management and project accounting. She is skilled in the development of procedures to maximise cash management and analysis to improve company profitability and customer service.
She will be the main point of contact for all financial matters reporting to the MD and CEO.
Hannah has been with Canis Media since 2002 and works with our Financial Assistant Valery to ensure that our financial reporting and management is accurate and up-to-date. From a client perspective, she is the main point of contact and the person to whom any invoice queries or payment issues should be raised.
Valery joined Canis in 2010 after many years in finance.
Her range of experience varies from engineering to the TV Industry at Pinewood Studios. From a client perspective, Valery is the main point of contact and the person to whom any invoice queries or payment issues should be raised.
Kelly started working for Canis Media in 2004 as a Customer Service agent, since then she has gone on to do many different roles within the Company including, Scheduler, VOD Manager, Editor and Channel Management working with various Clients across the Broadcast spectrum, she hopes to be involved with more projects in this ever changing exciting environment in the future.
Gemma joined Canis Media as a Junior Scheduler straight out of University. After being named The University of Lincoln Media Student of the Year 2013 and achieving a First Class degree in Film and Television and Journalism, Gemma was keen to get started in the media.
She has experience in doing runner work for television stations, writing articles for local newspapers and editing corporate videos. Gemma hopes to continue to pursue her career as a scheduler whilst also developing skills in other areas of the business.
With a background in marketing and PR and having worked in events management, Susie has all the organisational skills required to manage a busy office and look after the diary of the Chief Executive here at Canis.
Claire is located at the Chalfont office and joined the team at Canis in March 2013, as an Executive Assistant. With over 6 years’ experience in the services industry, Claire has the necessary skill set to manage and organise the busy schedule of the Managing Director.
