Ed Hall, Chairman and Chief Executive

Ed is Chairman and Chief Executive of the Canis Media Group, and an active investor in digital television businesses in the UK and overseas. He has launched, bought or sold more channels in the UK than anyone else.

Prior to founding Canis in 2001, Ed founded and ran Invest TV, the company that launched the Simply group of channels. Ed formerly worked as a consultant for a number of companies, including Northern and Shell and Channel 4. Before moving into the business side of broadcasting Ed was an reporter and producer for the BBC, Channel 4, Thames Television and various newspapers and magazines. He won a SONY Radio Award in 1998 for a programme in the series Ed Hall Investigates… for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Ed is well known on the conference circuit both here in the UK and abroad and is also a regular contributor to television and broadcast trade magazines. His views and commentaries on the issues currently facing the television industry are widely respected and he is a valuable adviser to any newcomer to the UK television market

Fergus Lawson, Managing Director

Highly experienced in the broadcast arena, Fergus has worked in both production and advertising in the UK television industry. He started in media sales working for ITV where he negotiated airtime with media buying agencies and clients.

Fergus then co-founded, launched and managed a production company specialising in participation entertainment game shows which supplied both ITV and Hallmark Television.

Fergus’ experience in launching television channels and his knowledge of the UK’s TV airtime market makes him uniquely qualified to assist any new entrants to the UK TV market.

Helena Brewer, Broadcast Services Manager

As Broadcast Services Manager, Helena brings a wealth of experience to Canis having worked in the broadcast industry for 12 years.
Her specialist area is broadcast compliance and licensing, her area of focus when she worked for TV regulator Ofcom and Red Bee Media. This is invaluable to new entrants to the UK TV market, in explaining what they are permitted to broadcast. Similarly, existing channels will benefit from her experience in all areas of compliance relating to programming, advertising, sponsorship, interactive and VOD.
In addition, knowledge gained whilst working as a consultant in launching new channels both in the UK and abroad, means that she has a sound understanding of how television works from a technical perspective.
Helena is responsible for the management of Canis’ in house scheduling and broadcast services team who look after a growing number of channels, and is therefore critical to Canis in ensuring new channels not only get on air, but stay on air.

Alina Stary, Commercial Services Executive

With 15 years experience in Cable and Satellite broadcasting, Alina brings together practical TV production knowledge with project planning and management skills. Alina has worked on most types of television revenue models, from local television, to call TV, subscription, gaming, sponsor funded, and self promotional. Prior to Joining Canis Media in 2009, Alina was Group Production Manager for TV Commerce PLC. Alina works on new channels and emerging technology opportunities particularly IPTV, Youview and Mobile Apps. Alina is particularly proud of producing the UK’s first simultaneous live TV and internet streamed ghost watch for Telewest in 1999, and is an avid Dr Who fan.

Stephanie Morello, Head of Scheduling

Steph joined Canis in 2007, straight out of university, and started her career as a scheduler for Film 24. After 18 months working on the channel she was the promoted to Head of Scheduling, looking after the day to day running of several channels across various platforms. In 2009 she had the opportunity to assist in the launch of Fitness TV which she then managed and is now looking forward to developing her role as a crucial part of the Canis channel launch team.

Hannah Aarons, Finance Manager

Hannah has been with Canis since 2002 and works with our Financial Assistant Valery to ensure that our financial reporting and management is accurate and up-to-date. Valery Yost, Finance Executive

Valery joined Canis in 2010 after many years in finance, her range of experience varies from engineering to the TV Industry at Pinewood Studios.

James Carter, Commercial Services Coordinator

James began his career  in events & celebrity booking spanning 3 years working on charity events, film premieres & award ceremonies. Pursuing ambitions James moved into TV & film as Production Coordinator for leading special FX creators, Millennium FX working on films including “Da Vinci Code”, “Children of Men” & “Severance” and TV shows “Little Britain” & “Dr Who”. He worked for various small indie’s as a researcher and gained the majority of his experience at Talkback Thames as Location Coordinator & Researcher on shows such as “Property Ladder”, “How Clean is Your House?” & “The Apprentice”.

James joined Canis as Broadcast & Commercial Services Coordinator in the summer of 2011 working across both divisions of the company researching various projects and brokering EPG’s.

Clare Bramley, Head of Canis Local TV Services

With almost 3 decades of global broadcast media and communications experience, Clare is responsible for Canis Local TV Services. Clare was BT Head of Media Industry Marketing where she conceived and co-founded the hugely successful participation media venture BT agilemedia, before becoming an independent broadcast media consultant.
Now an Emmy award-winning TV producer and former COO of Vintage TV, Fitness TV, SA Direct TV and Horse & Country TV, Clare offers unparalleled operational, commercial and management expertise to Canis Media’s channel start up clients, in particular to those wishing to capitalise on the UK Government’s Local TV initiative.
